“While painting, my attention moves between the intentional forming of images with abstraction, and allowing cues outside my immediate awareness to become melded into the works in progress.
I worked on these paintings mostly with a small collection of visual objects which through repetition become as much objects of meditative contemplation as any specific person, animal, or element of nature and environment. This helps my process to become less tied to initial and habitual impulse, and more open to surprise and transformation.
