ST CATHARINES – 13th Street Gallery located at 13th Street Winery, 1776 Fourth Avenue in St. Catharines announces its new exhibition featuring two exciting Canadian metal artists Alex Chorny and Floyd Elzigna. Opening on Saturday July 15, 2023, all are invited between 2 and 5 p.m. to meet the artists. Two prolific metal artists, Chorny and Elzinga will be showcasing new works. Alex Chorny is a recent graduate of the Marylin I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts at Brock University, it will be his first major exhibition. Alex utilizes high-powered magnets, iron filings, and resin to create his unique, original, experimental artworks. Also featuring is the popular Floyd Elzinga with his beautiful metal landscape artworks. Elzinga has been exhibiting at 13th Street Gallery since 2019 and consistently sells out his exhibitions
“I have abandoned traditional art-making materials and techniques to create experimental artworks through the manipulation of the natural forces of magnetism and gravity. Through material exploration in pattern and texture, I have endeavoured to visually highlight the symmetries, tessellations, and unseen energy structures around us in magnetism, mineralogy, mathematics, and physics,” explains Alex Chorny.
Floyd Elzinga is drawn to polar opposites, “I employ natural and non-traditional sculpting materials to create conceptual sculptures, but more than a decade of steel fabrication has made metals my dominant choice of materials. I was initially drawn to using steel as a material because of its plastic nature. It is a common, fast-working material that is very forgiving allowing me to sketch my thoughts in line-drawing style panels and persuasively formed sculptures,” says Floyd Elzinga.
The exhibition will continue until Saturday August 12, 2023
