ST CATHARINES – 13th Street Gallery located at 13th Street Winery, 1776 Fourth Avenue in St. Catharines announces its new exhibition featuring two outstanding Canadian Abstract female artists Angela Bontempo and Marianne Fowler. Opening on Saturday May 6, 2023, all are invited between 2 and 5 p.m. to meet the artists. It will be Bontempo’s exhibition debut at 13th Street Gallery, her new body of work are rich with texture. Bontempo explains, “I was excited to push my boundaries as I explored my colour palette and composition. It takes courage to turn yourself inside out and show it to the world. My hope is that my art, if nothing else allows you to feel something and is an invitation to escape and dive into your own imagination.”
Marianne Fowler’s new paintings are a bold move outside her more neutral palette. Her works engages actively in a curious interchange between the past and the future of painting. There is an exploration between the origins of pure abstraction in modernism and the more conceptual forms of painting in the postmodern age. “Through the process of etching into the surface, deeper reflections of time can be considered,” explains the artist, “this exhibition will exhibit both new and earlier paintings.”
The exhibition will continue until Saturday April 29, 2023
Co-owner of 13th Street Winery, John Mann has been collecting and living with art for over fifty years, both at home and at work. Art has always been an integral part of the Winery’s vision to provide visitors with a unique experience that stimulates all the senses, not just taste.
13th Street Gallery opened its doors on November 2, 2019 offering guests the opportunity to view and purchase original artwork from the collection and beyond. The collection includes works by some of Canada’s most celebrated artists, including Harold Town of Toronto’s Painters Eleven and Jean-Paul Riopelle and Rita Letendre of Montreal’s Les Automatistes movements. The Gallery features both contemporary and historical Canadian fine art in a series of changing exhibitions. The Gallery is dedicated to selling Canadian art.
