Collection: Dillon Douglas

Dillon Douglas is a visual artist based in Canada. He works subversively in the traditions of expressionism, cubism and surrealism. He isn’t necessarily interested in painting what is beautiful or heroic, but rather the unavenged, unangelic and eclipsed.

His works playfully explores the contradictions and anxieties of the painterly life within the image saturated environment of post- industrial society, where to be is to be seen. He is fascinated by the meta-artistic subject of the “painter/poet/philosopher” who sways between the complicated poles of "distraction" and "productivity," a subject who is entangled in the symptoms of capitalist subjectivity (where identity is built on always being productive) and artistic subjectivity (where identity is built on always being creative).
