Rachel Stangl was born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario. She is a recent graduate of Brock University completing her Bachelor of Arts and is currently enrolled in Teacher Education. Her art practice omits the use of brushes, utilizing her hands to apply acrylic paint onto canvas. Inspired by the Northern Ontario landscape from her hiking and bouldering trips, her abstract paintings translate various exterior elements of landscapes into diverse marks of colour combinations.
“I discovered that I leaned towards abstraction which meant detaching myself from previous representational work. As I continue painting various pieces with bright colours with an abstract intent, I come closer to understanding myself as a person, a friend, a daughter and an artist.”
