Dr. Chandi Jayawardena started painting in Ceylon at age six under the guidance of his father and mother, both of whom were artists. Over the next five decades, he continued his visual art studies in Sri Lanka, at the University of Guyana, at the Edna Manley College of Visual & Performing Arts in Jamaica, and in Canada. In 2010 and 2012 he successfully completed the Fine Art and Painting certificate programs at the School of Design, George Brown College, Canada.
Between 1993 and 2023 Chandi has exhibited 463 paintings in 13 solo art exhibitions and 29 group exhibitions in four countries. His paintings have been selected by various enterprises including the esteemed Guyana’s National Collection, the annual conference of the Canadian School of Management in 2002, as well as for a book cover in USA in 2006. His travels to 100 countries have informed and broadened his artwork from landscapes to figurative, abstract to realistic in oils, acrylics, and watercolors. Chandi established the Pegasus Art Gallery in Guyana in 1995 and is an author and a poet. He published 45 of his paintings and 55 of his poems in his 22nd book titled ‘Emotions’ in 2022.
