Hussein Salim is a Sudanese artist based in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Born in Sudan and educated in Fine and Applied Arts (B.Sc.) at the University of Sudan for Science Technology – Khartoum, and completing an M.A. in Fine Art at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, his prolific work is featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally.

Using extensive layering of paint and symbols, interwoven with rich colours, his body of work expresses his memories of Sudan and the diasporic experience of exile. Hussein’s work is inspired by and celebrates the diversity, colour and life of Sudan, the multicultural communal structure, and the graciousness, humility and resilience of the people.
