Denise St. Marie and Timothy Walker met in London Ontario in 2005. Denise St Marie was working on her outdoor visual art practice while Timothy Walker studied drawing and classical guitar. Their collaborative process emerged early, sharing interests in psychology, philosophy, poetry and dialogue. They enjoy discussing human perception, the natural world, and our socially constructed systems that connect the two.
St Marie φ Walker have notably exhibited in Nuit Blanche Toronto, Art Gallery of Windsor, Art Gallery of Waterloo, Art Gallery of Mississauga, Markham Museum, Latcham Art Gallery, Art Souterrain Montreal, Hamilton Supercrawl, CAFKA Kitchener, LUMEN Waterloo, Malaspina Printmakers Vancouver, and SNAP in Edmonton.
Both completed a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo. During such time they were each awarded travel to work for Steve Lambert in his New York studio. Additionally, they were each honoured to receive a dual Governor General's Academic Gold Medal for their collaborative exhibition The Re-examined Life. They have both taught sessionally at the university level and most recently at Brock University’s Visual Arts Department in 2023.
