About Jeffrey Spalding

Jeffrey Spalding is an artist, author, curator and educator. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland 1951, he lives and works in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Salmon River Bridge, Nova Scotia. Spalding obtained his BA from the University of Guelph, (Guelph, Ontario, Canada); MA from Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio, USA) and MFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada). He has taught studio art, art history and museum studies at universities and art colleges in Canada, USA and Japan, notably at York University, The Banff Centre, University of Lethbridge, Florida State University. He was a visiting instructor at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, Halifax and has been an invited artist and guest speaker internationally delivering lectures at the majority of art institutions in Canada.

Spalding’s art has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions since 1970. His career spanning more than 40 years has embraced a wide variety of styles and approaches. He is acknowledged contributor to the evolution of video art, conceptual art, abstract painting as well as the resurgence of romantic landscape painting. His works are in the collection of: The National Gallery of Canada, Vancouver Art Gallery, Musee d’art contemporain de Montreal, Musee des Beaux Arts de Montreal, McMichael Canadian Collection, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Alberta, Glenbow Museum, Banff Centre, Mendel Art Gallery, Mackenzie Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Canadian Embassy, Washington. The Canadian Consulate, Sydney, Appleton Museum of Art, Florida, Canada Council Art Bank as well as most principal museums and public collections in Canada.
