About Campbell Scott

Prominent Niagara artist Campbell Scott was born in Milngavie, Scotland. He attended The Glasgow School of Art and upon graduation was awarded the Medal of Honour. He also studied in Paris with world-renowned engraver Stanley Hayter as well as at the Copenhagen School of Fine Art. He apprenticed for five years on the Clyde as a Master Woodcarver, and in 1951 he emigrated to Canada. He trained as a teacher and joined the St. Catharines Collegiate faculty where he taught for 35 years.

Campbell was known for having many talents and skills, being both a graphic artist and a sculptor. He worked in a wide range of mediums, from meticulously-crafted woodblock prints to elaborate abstract sculptures. He was also a successful jewelry designer and worked in pottery. A lasting legacy was the design and building of his unique home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, which remains as a testament to his talent today. He was also known for pushing for greater support and appreciation of our local artists.
His graphic print work is represented in The British Museum in London, the Bibliotheque National in Paris, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Rodman Hall Art Centre in St. Catharines and recently the RiverBrink Art Museum in Queenston.
