About Jack Shadbolt
The Hornby Suite was created during the winter of 1968-69 when artist Jack Shadbolt (1909-1998) was staying on Hornby Island, BC. It is a testament to his respect for fellow Canadian artist Emily Carr and her influence on his artistic process. Shadbolt was an influential artist and teacher. He was shown in an impressive array of international exhibitions as a representative of Canada, including the Caracas Bienal in 1953 and 1955, and the Sao Paulo Bienal in 1954. Shadbolt studied at the Vancouver School of Art.
