Paverpol, painted fabric

80” x 16” x 35”

Provenance:

13th Street Winery Permanent Collection since 2019

Literature:

TIA is an acronym for Thankful In Adversity. She is the depiction of a strong woman who in spite of the “winds of adversity” that have been, and are blowing against her, is able to give thanks. Using Paverpol to incorporate fabric into her sculptures, Plugers states, “It’s using T-shirts, tablecloths, and other different fabrics that people end up throwing away.” Paverpol is an environmentally friendly, water-based hardener, it has the consistency of a thin paint and makes hard-rock materials of textiles, fabrics, paper, leathers, moss and even tree branches. Once sealed, it is weatherproof and can be left outdoors throughout the winter and summer months.

The process takes about three steps. The artist starts with wire frames to create the figure, wrapped with a foil and then the fibers are applied. The strips of cloth are dipped into Paverpol and then wrapped around the piece bringing it to life.

About The Artist:

Currently working and living at Jordan Station, Ontario, Tamara Plugers is a practicing artist and a certified Paverpol instructor. Tamara began pursuing Paverpol after seeing a sculpture in her aunt’s home in Niagara-on-the-Lake. She was intrigued by the art and has been practicing for over 12 years.
