About Mark Birksted
Mark Birksted is a sculptor based in Kingston (ON). Although trained as a graphic designer, Birksted would eventually change his profession and apprentice under Canadian artist Shayne Dark for five years. He worked side-by-side with Dark internationally assisting with his museum and public art practices. Inspired by the monumental works of Henry Moore, Birksted’s work process involves little more than his hands and the raw steel, manipulated without the use of a forge or a torch. He pushes his body to the limit, to shape and weave the industrial material into organic groupings of flowing lines.
